Another African state is preparing to launch its own token
The number of countries in Africa willing to issue a national digital currency (CBDC) is growing. In mid-week, Ghana's central bank announced trials of its token.
The CBDC launch project is being implemented by the regulator in partnership with the German team Giesecke+Devrient. A statement from the Central Bank noted that developers from Germany will present transaction software with the innovative tool.

Giesecke+Devrient, headquartered in Munich, develops products for customers aimed at storing and processing financial data.
The Bank of Ghana promises that commercial banks as well as trading companies and service providers will take part in the CBDC testing. And the regulator does not exclude the participation of ordinary citizens in the digital currency tests. While every Bitcoin mining operation outside of China that has not been shut down is expected to get a bigger share of the daily BTC mining pie, updates from five publicly traded companies offer a look at exactly how much they have benefited from shutting down their Chinese rivals.
According to the deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana, Maxwell Opoku-Afari, tests of CBDC should begin in September this year. However, the regulator has not yet announced even an approximate timeline for the official release of the token.
It should be noted that cryptocurrencies and bitcoin in particular have risen sharply in popularity in Africa over the past few years. According to LocalBitcoins, the continent has even surpassed Latin America in terms of BTC transactions.
