The Fed believes the U.S. should accelerate the development of the digital dollar
In the U.S. leadership at various levels, many periodically raise the question of the feasibility of launching a digital dollar (CBDC).
Federal Reserve Governor Lael Brainard believes that many states are already moving toward creating a national token. If Washington slows down, the country risks falling behind its neighbors in terms of technology.
The Fed believes the U.S. should accelerate the development of the digital dollar
According to Reuters, the representative of the Fed expressed her position at an event organized under the auspices of the Aspen Institute Economic Strategy Group.
Brainard said the dollar still dominates the system of international payments. But for some reason, the U.S. leadership is in no hurry to create a digital version of its national currency, while other countries are already well advanced in this matter.
The digital dollar will make it possible to pay for goods and services even for those people who do not have bank accounts.
Note that in early July, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Jerome Powell during one of his speeches said that the U.S. will monitor the countries that are developing CBDC. In September, the regulator will publish a report assessing the impact of the digital dollar.
